RICK BARTON AND THE SHADOWBLASTERS "American Rock Song" CD/Album
$9.98
On his debut solo effort Rick Barton, co-founder and chief songwriter for The Dropkick Murphys, comes out kicking and screaming like a newborn from the womb. He rounded up some of Boston's finest to help out with this project, including members of The Del Fuegos, The Amazing Royal Crowns and Swinging Steaks. He combines elements of The Clash and Social Distortion, but doesn't limit himself to these influences. Mr. Barton's whiskey-soaked voice has an amazing sincerity and lends honesty to each lyric that pours from his lips. His conviction and emotional delivery are not to be denied and even when familiarity does creep in- Rick adds just enough twists and turns to make things increasingly exciting. Standouts include "Lookin' Out" with its pounding rhythm and Matthew Sweet-style riff. "These Kids" fuels the driving four on the floor beat with a Stiff Little Fingers guitar line and a chorus that sticks in your head refusing to leave. As the disc progresses, it's clear that fans of the former mentioned bands will not be disappointed, and neither will Dropkicks' fans who should run to the store to pick this disc up. Highly recommended.

Garage/Punk to Indie Rock in the style of THE PRETENDERS and MAZZY STAR, underground sensation NATALIE FLANAGAN'S EP "5 STAR DAY"was recorded LIVE at Room 9 in Boston by Boston sound guru Ducky Carlisle [Ducky is also international blues sensation Barrence Whitfield's drummer].
D. Wildman, THE BOSTON GLOBE:
Natalie's spare songwriting style is highlighted by sweet Lou Reed meets Betty Severt vocals
J. Marko:
Natalie captivates audiences by conjuring a dark moodiness reminiscent of MAZZY STAR. Backed by a new rythm section from SLIDE and a moaning lap steel, her band has only reinforced comparisons to CHRISSY HYNDE and THE FEELIES with more feel! With a catalog of beautifully heartfelt and gut wrenching songs, Natalie Flanagan is an artist you won't want to miss.

THE OUTLETS have been one of the most prolific and exciting live bands in the Northeast since the early 80's. There have been several linup changes throughout the years but the music by DAVID BARTON, an extraordinarily talented songwriter, has remained brilliantly intense, with power pop hooks and a punk attitude. Live, The Outlets, then and now, create an overpowering presence, great music and kick ass rock! The Outlets' first releases were on Modern Method [Mike Dreese/Newbury Comics' label]; they later released singles on American Music/One Way Productions and One Way Productions. In 1985 The Outlets released their only full length album of the 80's "Whole New World" [Restless/Enigma] recorded at Blue Jay Recording Studio [Rob Dimit producing] by,and for, One Way Productions; this album received critical acclaim and won the designation as being recommended by Billboard Magazine. Rick Barton, one of the cofounders of The Outlets and David Barton's older brother, moved on to cofound THE DROPKICK MURPHY'S and acted as their rythm guitar player and lead songwriter until recently when he left The Dropkick Murphys to start his new band THE SHADOWBLASTERS but he has been known to appear on stage with The Outlets when his touring schedule permits. Rick re-joined the Outlets in the studio to record the self titled Hendrix Records 13 song 1999 release "The Outlets".
Also released in 1999 by One Way Productions, "I REMEMBER" is an 18 song retrospective of some of THE OUTLETS most popular songs of the 80's and 90's. David Barton has also scored music for television and the movies {"Hard Promises" starring Cissey Spasic & William Peterson]. I REMEMBER contains Outlets songs, unavailable anywhere else, recorded by the band that made them famous in the underground rock scene

BERT SWITZER / THE DESTROYED / MONSTER ISLAND
"Bert Switzer 1977-2003"
$10.00
Bert Switzer, a Boston-area drummer who recorded his first record and performed his first live gig with renowned avant garde guitarist Henry Kaiser, has released a compilation CD of "my best musical performances with all the musicians and bands I have played with over the last 25 years". Switzer began playing drums in 1967. Ten years later, he joined one of the earliest and wildest punk bands, The Destroyed, who, after being spotted by frontman Peter Wolf during a performance at the now-defunct Rathskellar, opened for the J. Geils Band in a performance in Maine. The bulk of the CD is devoted to music from the heydays of The Destroyed (thedestroyed.com). It also contains a couple songs he recorded with Kaiser as Monster Island, as well as some previously unreleased material. Switzer worked with Bill T Miller on two new songs, one is pure drums and the other has Miller on guitar and bass.
BERT SWITZER / THE DESTROYED
"Outta' Control" CD/Album
$10.00
Bert Switzer, 54, and J.D. Jackson (formerly Joe Rainbow), 48, former members of 70s punk band The Destroyed, play together for the first time since 1979, on the new CD, Outta Control. 10 Destroyed tracks from the 70s are included as bonus tracks, released for the first time ever. "Except for our original guitarist, who is pursuing a solo career," says Bert Switzer, drummer, "this CD is effectively a reunion of The Destroyed." The CD also reunites Switzer for two non-Destroyed tracks with guitarist Henry Kaiser, who Switzer played with in the band Monster Island in 1977. Kaiser has gone on to play with or record with such musicians as Jerry Garcia, Herbie Hancock, David Lindley, and Michael Stipe. Switzer and Jackson decided to re-form after the success of last year's CD entitled Bert Switzer 1977-2002 that also featured Kaiser and The Destroyed. An underground hit, the CD was played on college radio all over North America, charting on WPRP, WIDR, CLUT, KCSB, WNUR, WXYC, WLFM, and WRFL, and received incredible reviews in the national press. Tracks 1, 6, and 12 on the new Outta Control CD are hot picks as radio singles. Is You With Us?

It's different, but we were true to the spirit of the original Destroyed. I truly believe Jackson is one of the best songwriters around.
